Today is my Sister’s birthday, she turned 20!! Where does the time go?! As a treat from our Mum she took my Sister and I to ‘Prêt-à-Portea’ at The Berkeley Hotel, London. My Mum and I had been before when it was my 21st Birthday (3 years ago) so we were excited to go back as we had a swell time the first time round and wanted to see the new range of biccies and cakes they had to offer – they change them every fashion season.
Above is the tier of cakes and fancies we were given, each themed along something from the AW 2014 catwalks:
Mathew Williamson sequin macaroon with Mont Blanc cream ganache and psychedelic swirl of black & white
Jimmy Choo monochrome chic Cayla zebra print bag in Dulcey chocolate moelleux topped with a rainbow of meringue drops
Moschino’s quirky ‘Yellow M’ handbag of blood orange victoria sponge swathed in red quilted chocolate
Charlotte Olympia ‘Sarah’ knee high dark chocolate biscuit boot covered in sultry scarlet and black
Diane von Fürstenberg’s iconic golden gown ginger biscuit with a sprinkling of sparkle highlighting 40 years of Hollywood glamour
Christopher Kane silk-organza peanut sponge cake and Poire William brandy mousse with delicate pink meringue layering
Manish Arora pink lady apple, cassis jelly and crème de Menthe mousse crowned with a marzipan Candyland apple cap
Valentino’s sexy sixties mini dress chocolate tartellette filled with caramelia cremeux, whipped ganache with red and pink chocolate polka dots
Dolce and Gabbana’s whimsical night owl with blackcurrant bavarois and star anis pannacotta savouring the designers’ Sicilian forest fantasy
As well as the above we were given a selection of sandwiches – salmon, crayfish, cheese, egg and turkey with other yummy ingredients in. And some savoury options on the tier of cakes. There was lots on offer and the whole tier and sandwiches were replenished once eaten so we could all have a taste of everything – which I think is fab as it’s basically all you can eat! We all got soooo stuffed too! The majority of the cakes and fancies were delish and if one of us didn’t like something, the other was sure to like it. This was the same with the savoury treats but we all munched on our sandwiches – they were delightful!
The Berkeley Hotel still had some of their Christmas decorations up too so was lovely walking in and seeing baubles, lights and white trees. They had a stunning set up in the entrance and hallways around the Caramel Room where the Afternoon tea took place.
The cost of the tea is £45 pp. and this includes a drink – soft or something from their tea selection. You can have champagne for an extra £6 I think though too.
Overall it was a lovely afternoon and so fab seeing the chefs interpret fashion designs into food!
Feel free to comment below if you have any questions about it 🙂
