I don’t know about you, but I’ve often struggled with letting myself get anxious. I’m such a worrier and always think too much into things; and this can sometimes get a little too much. Over time though, I have learnt how to clear my mind by doing just a few simple things.
Now I’m not saying these are the only ways to help clear your mind; these are just a few things that have helped me in the past and I wanted to share them with you.
LISTEN TO MUSIC
I love singing along to my favourite songs, so if I feel like I need time to clear my mind, I just log onto Spotify and press play. Depending on what my mood is I might listen to acoustic covers or something a bit more upbeat. After listening to a few tracks and humming away, I’ve always forgotten about what I was thinking about before.
SLEEP
We’ve all heard the phrase ‘let’s sleep on it’, well it does work. For me anyway. I always find a good nights sleep has refreshed my mind and I always feel much more positive when I wake up, so I’m ready to hit whatever it was that was worrying me.
EXERCISE
I became a fan of running when I trained for the London Marathon last year, mainly because it gave me a chance to clear my mind. Even if I was worrying about something, if I went for a run, I’d always feel like I had sorted the problem out in my head by the time I got home. I’d always feel so positive by the end of a run too as I felt like I had accomplished a good distance, and when you’re feeling happy and content, you don’t want that issue in your head bringing you down.
TV
I’m a sucker for a good TV series. So if I want to clear my mind, I’ll either start watching a new one from scratch or continue with one I’m already watching. I get sucked into TV shows; which is great if you’re worrying about something, because you’re soon too involved in the TV characters problems and not your own. In the long run, it’s probably not best to put a hold on your anxiety, but I always feel like if I take a step back from a problem and clear my head, I deal with it a lot better afterwards.
TRAVEL
Now I haven’t travelled much in my life, just the one or two holidays per year, which I guess to some people is a lot actually. But when I go on holiday and feel the sun on my skin, and look out onto the ocean, I instantly feel a lot more positive and content; like you’ve left all of your worries at home. Holidays give you time to de-stress and refresh your brains. Even if it’s just a few days away exploring or sun bathing, it’s such a good way to clear your mind.
So that’s my 5 ways to help clear your mind. Do you find any of these things work? Or maybe you can share a new technique with me?
