10 WAYS TO BE HAPPY

With the new year approaching it go me reflecting on 2016 and thinking about 2017. 2016 has been on crazy year for me and my blog. As everyone does over time, I’ve gone through some changes and I’ve started to feel a lot happier in myself. Ever since my Dad passed away 6 and 1/2 years ago, I’ve struggled with happiness over time. I felt guilt for feeling happy, it was hard to put a smile on my face, as everyday I think about my Dad and it’s hard not to constantly feel sad. 

This year though, I found myself having achieved everything I wanted to. I bought my first house with my boyfriend, I got a puppy, I quit my job to blog full time… So many things I dreamt of and wanted so badly and I got them. It felt good and for once I could sit down and breath. There was no more doubting myself, no more putting myself down. I was content and everything around me had fallen into place. Even my boyfriend said he noticed how much happier I was. For once in the last 6 1/2 years I felt happy and it felt good. Even though I still have my days where I let thoughts of my Dad get to me, I feel so much stronger to smile about him. Smile at the thought that he would be so happy and proud that I finally feel happy.

Having these thoughts made me think about how I got here so here’s my 10 ways to be happy.

STOP CARING
I realised over time, I just suddenly stopped caring. I didn’t stop caring about people, I just tried not to get so uptight about little things, or if something went wrong. As soon as you stop caring as much, you honestly will feel happier.

GET RID OF NEGATIVITY
Is there someone or something that brings you negativity? Get it out of your life. Honestly, if there is something bringing you down, what’s the point in trying to hold on to it. At the end of the day your happiness is more important.

FOCUS ON YOURSELF
Forget about other people for a minute and focus on yourself. I’m not saying disregard other people and their feelings, but do what makes you happy.

MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
Do you ever feel like you just work all of the time? It’s not good for you. Make sure you give yourself a break now and again. Maybe start up a hobby or go for a walk. Give yourself time to be happy.

FAMILY & FRIENDS
Don’t just sit around and wait for people to come to you; make more of an effort with your friends and family. Go out, do things, make plans. You’ll become a lot happier as you will have exciting things to look forward to people to laugh with.

BE POSITIVE
Stop all of those negative thoughts! Negativity doesn’t get you anywhere in life. Be positive and believe in yourself! One way that helps is to surround yourself with positive people.

GET A PET
Luna has changed my life since getting her. She literally makes me so happy it’s the weirdest thing; I never in a million years would have thought a dog could have that affect on me. If I’m ever feeling down, I just look at her and and I instantly feel better.

ACCEPTANCE
Things don’t always work out; some things might take time. Acceptance is one key to happiness. Instead of feeling down and having negative thoughts, accept that something isn’t right or isn’t going to work and think of positive things you can do to change that.

DON’T TAKE YOURSELF OR ANYONE TOO SERIOUSLY
Try not to let people or their words get to you. Chill out, enjoy life and be happy.

SLEEP
Give your body the rest it needs. When we’re tired, we get grumpy and down and they’re two things that interfere with happiness.
