TIPS TO HELP YOUR COLOURED HAIR LAST LONGER

Beauty

Having coloured hair can be a nightmare sometimes. The first time you dye it, you’re like YES, this looks amazing! But then as soon as you wash it, it fades and loses it’s colour. Most of the time my colours fade and still look great, but I know a lot of people that want their colour to last. In this blog post, I’m going to share a few of my tips with you to help your coloured hair last longer.
Dry Shampoo // A great tip for lasting colour is to try and not wash your hair as often. Semi-permanent colours fade after washing your hair, so the less times you wash it, the longer the colour will stick around. Make sure you have some dry shampoo on hand for those days where your hair might be a little greasy.

Maria Nila Colour Refresh // Did you know you can get coloured shampoos that give your hair a colour refresh? Maria Nila has a range of shades and these are great to use when you get round to washing your hair. It really helps lock your colour in. I use the Azure shade as my hair is blue and it works a treat!

Redken Colour Extend Mask // If you’ve got coloured hair, your hair is most probably bleached underneath, so you’re going to be needing to care for your hair whilst making the colour last. Redken do a fabulous range of products that focus on both of these.

RPR Extend My Colour // There are so many products out there to help your colour last, so if you can’t find your shade of a colour refresh available from Maria Nila, try a colour locking shampoo and conditioner instead. This one from RPR is great!

Another great tip is to avoid hot showers, the water can take the colour out of your hair compared to if the water is cooler. I’ve heard it’s great to give your hair a quick blast with cold water before hopping out the bath as this will seal your hair cuticles, locking in your colour. Using heated tools like hairdryers and straighteners also speed up the colour fading process; if you can, try and restrain from using them for about a week after you’ve coloured your hair.

If you’re thinking of colouring your hair a shade of green or blue, these colours actually last a little longer. My hair will only ever fade to a minty green now because I’ve coloured it blue for the last 3/4 years. Overlapping colours also help colour last longer. I think that’s why mine doesn’t fade much anymore, as I never allow my hair to fade enough, I just go back in and dye it intense again. The only downside to that, is that I’m unable to achieve other colours at the moment other than blue. I would have to bleach my hair completely to get rid.

I hope these tips help anyone with coloured hair. If you have any questions please feel free to comment below.

Peace
