DIY DOUGHNUT WALL

Lifestyle

I’m not the best at DIY but when it came to wanting certain things at my wedding I had to consider it as an option. One element I really wanted to have on my dessert table was a doughnut wall. I had come across a few whilst wedding planning on Pinterest and with my love for sprinkle doughnuts, I knew I had to have one. Most of the ones I saw were made out of a pegboard with dowel rods holding the doughnuts. It looked pretty simple to assemble, so I started my search online for the bits I needed.

Finding a pegboard was the hardest part of this wedding DIY. I could find US shops that stocked them, but none in the UK. I tweeted to see if anyone knew where I could get one from but I was at a dead end. The only ones I could find that were similar were metal pegboards that people would have in their garage to store their tools on. Not quite the pegboard I was looking for.

I then turned to eBay and finally I had some luck! I found MDF sheets of pegboards to order, which came in a pack of 3. I ordered those and waited until they arrived to work out what size dowel I would need. It looked great when it was delivered! Exactly what I was hoping for. I then went back on eBay and ordered different size samples of dowels to try which size was best and then ordered 5mm ones in bulk.

When it came to assembling the DIY doughnut wall, I started with working out how many dowels each pegboard needed. I wanted it to be symmetrical so I think I had 5 dowels across, with 10 rows of them. Once they were all in place, it was onto painting it pink, one of my wedding day colours. To make this super quick and easy, I purchased some pink spray paint from Fat Buddha. It took about 1 1/2 cans to cover two of the pegboards. I didn’t do the third one as two was enough. I think there was space for 80 doughnuts!

I left this to dry outside overnight, so if you’re going to make one, make sure you check the weather! And that was it! So simple and easy for a DIY. The two pegboards were placed next to each other on my dessert table at the wedding and my wedding coordinator made sure the doughnuts were put out before my wedding breakfast. They went down a treat!
