THE GROOM & HIS USHERS

Fashion

You won’t be surprised when I say that I took charge in organising Robin’s and his Ushers suits for the wedding. Boys being boys, usually leave things until last minute and I didn’t want that to happen. Robin chose his oldest friend to be his Best Man, and then four of his closest friends to be his Ushers, totalling to 6 of them altogether. We had always said from the get go, we didn’t want his Ushers to pay for their suits, so the outfits were done on a budget.

When we first started thinking about suits, Robin didn’t seem too bothered about his outfit. However, because I splashed out on the dress, I said to him why not splash out on a proper tailored suit, as it would then be a bit of a keepsake that you can wear again. We were actually wandering around London one day and popped down Saville Row to check out some suit shops and Robin really liked the selection of fabrics one of them had. We enquired into costings and left thinking that Robin was going to go back for a consultation. I think the more Robin thought about it though, the more put off he was about the costs. It was going to work out to be around £1500 for a suit, that’s without the shirt, shoes and cufflinks.

Once Robin had decided against a tailored suit, we started looking at other options such as buying from the high street or renting. That was when I told him to check out ASOS; because I knew they were going to stock these skinny fit suits he loved and they do have a great selection of products. To my surprise Robin actually found one he really liked in a blue check! It was really different, it was a three piece and in his skinny fit style. I said lets order it for you to try and and we can go from there. And boom! He loved it and it fitted him so well, considering it was a £150 ASOS suit that hadn’t been tailored to his figure.

Once Robin’s suit was sorted, we started to think about what his Best Man and Ushers could wear. I searched on Pinterest for real weddings so I could see how other people had styled their Ushers and a lot of them either wore the same or completely different. Because Robin’s suit was quite a bold print, I thought it would look too much if everyone else was in the same, so I started looking into navy suits. At first I thought about renting, but actually price wise, it was near enough the same as buying and then at least the Ushers could keep the suit and wear it again in the future.

I was back on ASOS again, and looking through their navy suits and luckily came across one that was in a really similar fabric to Robin’s. I thought, hey this is perfect as they will all tie in well together. I got two images of the suits up on my computer, side by side and I thought, ‘this is the one’. So I grabbed the boys sizes and ordered them. I know it was probably quite quick of me to order all of them without seeing it in real life, but ASOS sells out quickly and because I needed 5 suits, I didn’t want to risk missing out.

When the suits arrived they looked great! We got a few boys over to try them on and we did have to reorder a few trousers, but in the end the Ushers had suits that fitted. The only thing that was missing was a tie or bow tie. I thought it would look really cool if they were all wearing matching ones and it seemed the most obvious choice to have it in Robin’s suit fabric. ASOS didn’t sell these unfortunately but I asked Robin’s sister, who’s a seamstress, if I bought the largest pair of trousers in Robin’s suit if she’d be able to make bow ties. And she said yes!

Robin’s Ushers sorted out white suit shirts, cufflinks and shoes for themselves whilst Robin splashed out on shoes from Represent. And to finish off his suit, I bought him some Gucci cufflinks as his wedding morning present. I definitely think Robin and his Ushers looked great altogether though and you couldn’t tell where they got their suits from. They look way more expensive than ASOS!
