THE WEDDING DRESS

Fashion

You’ve probably all seen my wedding dress by now, on my social media; but I thought I would still write a blog post as I want to share everything with you. From who the designer is, how I styled it on the day and my thoughts and feelings about picking it.
I found choosing a wedding dress rather difficult because I knew I wanted something alternative and after searching, couldn’t really see many unique dresses. There were a few, don’t get me wrong, however they weren’t stocked in the UK or they were past seasons and weren’t available anymore. At first I really thought I was going to opt for a coloured dress, but after going dress shopping to try on different styles, I found myself steering towards the traditional bridal colour of ivory.

I knew from the get go that I wanted a princess style ball gown dress, purely because I’ve never worn one before and would most likely never wear one again. So I thought hey, let’s go all out for the big day. I did try other styles on, but always seemed to prefer a tight top and pouffy bottom. Another thing I preferred were straps, I found the dresses with straps suited my figure much more than the bandeau styles. Once I sort of figured out what style of dress I liked, I then spent the day in London visiting three wedding dress shops. I didn’t find anything all day until I went to the final shop and tried on this Lazaro wedding dress.

My sister in law had been begging me to try this dress on as it looked gorgeous in a few Instagram photos we’d previously seen. She made me face time her when I had it on and she instantly cried. Then I started getting emotional and it all started to feel real. I don’t think I really got that ‘this is the dress’ feeling, I always choke up when someone else gets emotional. I hate making decisions so I actually felt a little ‘ahhhh’ when I said yes to buying the dress there and then. Even when I left the shop I kept thinking, was that the one? Do I actually like that dress?

Looking at the dress though, it was so me. The pure silver glitter covering the entire dress, the plunge neckline, the fact it was backless and the ball gown style. All things I wanted in a dress, yet I kept having doubts. It was really hard as you never actually try the wedding dress on with your wedding day makeup, hair and accessories until the actual day itself. I don’t know why I worried though because it really did come together and I was so happy with how I looked and the outfit I had created.

THE ACCESSORIES

When it came to styling my wedding dress, at first I thought I wanted all blue jewellery because the dress was ivory. However after having a little think and look online, I thought if I couldn’t match the blue jewellery to my blue hair, I don’t think it would all work. My hair being blue was such a big statement that I felt like maybe keeping my accessories silver would be best. I’m so glad I made that choice because I found the most beautiful jewellery from Carat London which was themed around stars; it really complimented the sparkles on the wedding dress. I wore the drop earrings and drop necklace from the Stella Carat London collection.

When it came to a tiara, I knew I wanted something different to the usual bling crowns most brides opt for. Originally I had wanted to wear a shell mermaid crown, but after trying on a blue one that I had with my wedding dress, it just didn’t work. The dress was too glamorous for it. So then I had a look on etsy where I search for all my festival headpieces and stumbled upon Beretkah, a lady that hand makes crystal headpieces. I adored all of her designs and got in touch with her. We chatted away over email and she offered to make me a custom crown – so so sweet of her!

Now onto the shoes. Probably the best part! I knew I wanted height on my wedding day and I can only really walk in platform heels, so I started to research into wedding boots. I couldn’t really find anything so I then thought, lets stick to my personal style and went on Dolls Kill. In the back of my mind I wanted some blue boots and when I stumbled upon this pair from Current Mood Clothing, I fell in love. They were my wedding theme in a boot! The stars, the moon (Luna), the metallic colour, the flowers, the grass – they were MY BOOTS! I actually think I had more of a ‘this is the one’ feeling with the shoes compared to the dress!

Not really an accessory, but I wanted to share my wedding nails with you, as they really were part of the look. They were created by Nail Art ID Lab in Colchester and we went for the theme of blue and silver glitter with mermaid embellishment. We went all out with the nails and they were so fabulous!

Something I added to my outfit later, during the wedding reception was a blue sequin ‘Mrs Stanford’ jacket, handmade by Isolated Heroes. They kindly made me this jacket for the big day and I fell in love with it! It was so me and added an extra sparkle and alternative look to my outfit. It was nice to change things up a little after the church ceremony too.

Lastly was my veil. I got this from where I got my wedding dress from. I don’t really want to mention the shops name as they weren’t great and they’ve actually gone into liquidation now, so thank god they can’t give awful customer service to any other bride to be’s. I had tried a few veils on before picking the one and found I really liked the double tier style. This was because the top tier sat just below my elbows and gave volume to my top half and head. Sounds weird, but I have a small head so it was nice to balance out the overall look.

And that was my wedding dress and how I styled it! What did you all think of the dress? Did you expect me to wear something like this? I was so happy with how everything came together on the morning of the wedding and my beautiful bouquet of flowers by The Flower Arranger topped it off.
