Some of you may remember that I used to work in Social Media, so I thought I’d start writing a few blog posts giving away a few of my tips, to hopefully help some of you lovely bloggers out.
Social media is the one tool all of us bloggers need to utilise if we want to drive traffic to our sites. We can also use it as a way of creating a fan base which makes our overall presence stronger. Brands nowadays don’t just want to know how much traffic your blog gets, they want to know how many followers you’ve got on Instagram and Snapchat. So, here’s 5 social media tips for bloggers:
1. Don’t ‘share’ your Instagram images to your other social channels
People don’t want to see a tweet with a link or a facebook post with hashtags. It’s been found that people engage the most with a social post that has a photograph or video with it. Twitter is a very fast moving social channel, people just keep scrolling down until they see an interesting image or video, and then they click. They won’t even seen your link. If you want to post the same image across your channels, physically go into each social app and upload it and you’ll notice an increase in engagement instantly.
2. Use link shorteners
Another thing people don’t like seeing is long links. They take up too much space and can look messy. Keep your posts short, simple and clean by shortening your links.
3. Add social media icons to your website and make them visible
Make sure you tell your blog followers that you’re on social media and what channels by popping social icons on your blog. Put them somewhere it’s obvious, somewhere they will see. This could be at the top of the blog, or even down the sidebar.
4. Consistency is key
Each social media channel comes with a bio and profile picture; make all of these the same. You want people to recognise your photo if they’re on Twitter but only follow you on Instagram. It also looks professional having consistency across your social channels, just like a brand has. Because as the end of the day you are like a brand.
5. Check your social statistics monthly
There’s no point in posting things people don’t want to see. So once a month, log into your analytics and see what posts have done the best in terms of engagement. That way you will learn what works and what doesn’t and it will assist in growing your following.
