5 REASONS I STARTED A BLOG

Fashion

I’ve been working on my blog for about 2-3 years on the side of working full time. But it recently became my full time job, which is very exciting! To celebrate, I thought I’d share with you a few reasons why I started blogging in the first place!

1. To help me as a fashion stylist

You may not know that when I left University I actually started out as a freelance fashion stylist. It was difficult to begin with as you had to go out of your way to make contacts. I did a few projects here and there and learnt a lot over the course of 6 months. However living in London renting and not earning money from freelancing was a struggle; so I ended up in a social media job. I still had a love for styling though so I thought that if I set up a blog where I showcased my styling projects alongside my personal styling, it might get me somewhere. As my blog has grown though, I found a passion for my own personal style and decided to move forward with that instead of pursuing fashion styling.

2. My best friend

I’ll never forget the day my best friend showed me a few bloggers on Instagram, snapping away at their outfits of the day. She said to me ‘Soph, you could do this, you love fashion’. And I thought to myself, well actually, yes I could do this. I was a little nervous when I first started posting my outfits. But over time, I developed my style and knowledge of social media and blogging and my blog has now turned into a job. So I’ve definitely got my best friend to thank for that.

3. To meet new people

I love meeting new people and through blogging I’ve definitely made some friends for life. It’s like a little community and we’re all here to help each other out. It’s also great as we all know what goes into blogging and the amount of hard work it takes. You don’t only have to be good at photography, but writing, styling, editing and a lot more also.

4. As a hobby

I got bored of going home after work and sitting and watching tele. I didn’t have much money to enjoy living in London, so I thought a blog as a hobby could be a cool idea and take up some of my spare time. It didn’t take up too much time to begin with, but as my blog grew I was working full time in an office and then spending every spare minute to my blog, before I decided to take the plunge and go at it full time!

5. I wanted to inspire people

One of the main reasons why I started a blog was because I wanted to inspire people. I wanted to offer something a little different than the norm. Different things you could do with your hair and makeup and quirky outfits. Over time I’ve developed this part of my blog and you can now find mini tutorials offering inspiration on my Instagram, along with my longer videos on my YouTube channel.

So there you have it; 5 reasons I started a blog.
