LAS VEGAS

Travel
On day 4 of my adventure, we set off on a long drive to Las Vegas. I couldn’t believe I was going there! I’d always seen photos on google and friends holiday snaps of them there but it was my turn to experience it.

The drive took about 4 hours and we only stopped twice. It was an amazing drive though through the desert seeing all the mountains and wonderful scenery. It is true, the older you get the more you appreciate your surroundings. Our first pit stop on the way was obviously McDonalds. But not just any McDonalds, the oldest one still in it’s original condition. It was so cool! Getting stuffed on McDonalds definitely got us ready for the drive ahead. The menu out there is so much better than here though. If you’re a fan of chicken nug nugs you can buy 20! Not as a meal, literally just 20 chicken nuggets! So good!
We arrived in Vegas around 5pm and were staying at the Stratosphere. It was right at the end of the strip but it wasn’t actually that bad because cabs to the strip only cost $10-15 one way; and if you’re splitting that between 4/5 of you it’s mega cheap. I’d definitely recommend if you want to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the strip as it does get VERY busy!
It was insanely hot out there, about 48 degrees – all day. AND night. It didn’t matter what you wore, you knew you were going to sweat.
When we arrived we got changed and headed out to see what Vegas was all about. We strolled around some of the hotels to check out what was going on and I was amazed. The details in the themes at each hotel was unbelievable. Everything was just so cool! We had our first go at one of the roulette tables that night. Didn’t end too great though, the people working the tables can be so rude and they didn’t want to help us at all as we weren’t sure on how to play. After that experience I stuck to the slot machines. Which I wasn’t too bad on! I won quite a few times 🙂 score! I didn’t think I’d get addicted to it, but boy did we all keep going back to try and win more. You get such a buzz.
We dined at the Wynn all you can eat buffet one of the mornings – OMG IT WAS UNREAL. SO MUCH FOOD. Like so much! There was a room just for cakes, pastries and toffee apples. I was in heaven! All the food you can think of was in there. Definitely recommend going.
We managed to catch a few of the free shows on the strip as well. My favourite – The Bellagio fountain show. It was magical to watch. They music played over the fountains was from the film Chicago and they’d timed the fountains to it.
The Coca-Cola store on the strip was pretty cool too. We got to try flavours that are sold all over the world – some of them very odd like mint flavoured soda.
We also booked tickets to see a show. We ummed and arred about what to see and we eventually all agreed on the magicians Penn & Teller. And they were brilliant. What a pair! Very talented guys, they seriously make you think about their tricks and it’s even better when they show you how they’re actually executed.
Vegas was a blast. I definitely wished we had spent longer as there was SO much more there that I wanted to do! But I’ll be back…
Highlights of Vegas – slots, Bellagio fountain and spending it with my boy.
