WEDDING DAY TIPS

sophie hannah wedding tips

Since my wedding day on 9th June 2018, I've had lots of time to reflect. This post is something I knew I wanted to write after getting married as I had researched into the same thing, 'wedding day tips'.  I thought it would be a nice idea to share my thoughts and tips with you all as they might be slightly different to the usual ones that are out there. So here it goes...

MY WEDDING DAY TIPS

An Easy Way To Pee

I know. I've gone straight in with a wedding day tip on how to pee more easily! My sister actually told me about this one and it's honestly the best tip ever where I could pee in peace! If you lift your dress up from the front and sit facing the opposite way it makes it a hell of a lot easier to pee. So essentially your chest is facing the back of the toilet seat. There's no getting caught up in your huge train or veil and you can do this so easily by yourself. I went through the whole of my wedding with no help in the toilet!

Test Run Your Accessories/Shoes

Now I wish I had done this myself. I ended up getting a headache from my beautiful crown I wore, which really bugged me as it meant I couldn't drink. Luckily my friends were on hand with paracetamol and water and I took my crown off in the evening. Thank god it went so I could drink after my first dance! So ladies, please try your accessories on before your big day just in case they're painful. Same goes with shoes! Mine were surprisingly ok and I kept them on for 13 hours. But it's definitely best to do a little test run or wear your accessories around the house before your wedding.

Take A Breather

This is another wedding day tip I got told about before the big day and it's something I did and highly recommend. I made sure to take a few moments away from the wedding, solo and with Robin. I took a moment straight away when we got to the venue as that was when I had a headache, so I had a drink and some canapés out the back of my wedding venue. Then Robin and I had another moment before we made our entrance into the barn when our guests were seated. And again when we had our couple shots, we strolled through the woods on the way back to our wedding venue just the two of us. It was special having those moments as it meant you could breathe and really take in what was going on around you.

Have A Top Table Just The Two Of You

This was a last minute decision of mine and I'm so glad I did it. Both of our families are divorced and it was getting a little hard trying to figure out where people would sit and would someone else be happy with it. So in the end we thought do you know what, lets take this hassle away and make all our guests equal and just have us two on the top table. It worked perfectly! I was so happy we did this and it meant we could eat our meal together and chat about our ceremony and just take it all in really. It was another moment we could take a breather away from everyone. At the end of the day, the day is about two people coming together. And I had heard a lot of the time that weddings are also about greeting all your guests and I knew it would be hard for us both to do that together for the whole entire day. I don't think I saw Robin much into the evening, so it was nice to have that time together at the table.

Greet Your Guests After The Ceremony

I didn't realise this until the wedding day, but I basically hadn't spoken to anyone apart from Robin and my Bridesmaids when it came to finishing up our Church wedding ceremony. My original plan was to sneak back into the Church whilst everyone walked out so we could get ready for the confetti shots. But I'm so glad we didn't do this. In the end we stood out the front of the Church doors and greet every single person. Robin had already done this as he was mingling with our guests before the ceremony. However for me, up until this point it was the first time I'd got to say hello to everyone, so I felt it was really important to do so and it was lovely. Everyone was so jolly, the sun was shining and it was just great.

Paying Suppliers

Some suppliers might need to be squared up on the wedding day, so it's best to delegate this task to someone and pop cash in labelled envelopes. They can take charge so you can get on enjoying your wedding day.

Wedding Coordinator

If you've got a dry hire venue, then I honestly would advise getting a wedding coordinator for the day. I hired mine from Rock The Day Styling and it was one of the best decisions I made in regards to the wedding day. They were on hand to make sure the suppliers turned up at the right time and had everything to set up and they just made our day go so smoothly. They coordinated catering and bar staff and made sure all the wedding timings I'd given them had gone to plan. They made our day perfect!

Plan Ahead

What's the weather going to be like on your big day? Make sure you check the weather in the lead up to your wedding day just in case you need extra supplies like umbrellas or making sure you have enough water if it's going to be super hot.

I'm sure there are so many more tips I can share with you, but they are my top ones for now! If you want to read anymore wedding related blog posts then take a look here.
