TREND REPORT: 'SS15 FOOTWEAR'

Uncategorized

So as you all know, I attended GDS in Dusseldorf and got the opportunity to check out a lot of brands SS15 footwear collections for next year. I wanted to share with you, all the top trends that I spotted whilst I was there and what you will all need to keep a look out for when doing your summer shoe shopping next year.ON-POINT
The point is making a come back. Yup. You heard it here! Pointed ballet pumps and plimsoll shoes are going to be appearing in SS15.TEXTURES
Textured fabrics are a big key trend next summer. I spotted a lot of textured fabrics on shoes especially snake print in suede – this was on a lot of van styled footwear and has to be one of my favourite styles I’ve seen. Other textures featured were woven fabrics and cork – the woven texture is popular on espadrille and plimsoll style shoes and the cork on trainers/plimsolls. The cork material was very interesting, it reminded me of the cork you get on a bottle of wine, it’s that sort of texture on the whole of a shoe. I’m not too keen on it myself, however I think it will be quite big for meANIMAL FUR
Pony fur seemed to feature in quite a few brands collections and most had been reworked into a variety of animal prints such as leopard, giraffe and cow. I rather liked the black pony fur, it was simple yet classic.LASER CUT
There was a lot of laser cut leather around the trade show – mainly on trainer style shoes – but it looked really cool. It sort of reminded me of broderie anglaise but the pattern has been completely cut out of leather material. I found the laser cut shoes eye-catching and different. There were a lot of trainers around the trade show but they stood out in this fabric.TRIBAL
I saw a lot of Tribal/Aztec style prints on a wide range of different footwear from heels to sandals. The prints were either beaded or fabric that looked like beads – but they all featured a very similar style print.VAN STYLE SHOES
Now these were EVERYWHERE! They are a current fashion trend in the UK this summer, but next year the trend is going to get bigger. We’re going to see a lot of these plimsolls around in tonnes of different colours and fabrics.GLITTER
Glitter fabrics or actual glitter on shoes is another trend next SS15. Within the Flossy collection for next year we’ve featured glitter on a few of our products. I always think of glitter being slightly tacky, but a lot of brands designs are so cool and on trend that the glitter just makes them even cooler. You will definitely make a statement in glitter next summer.PLATFORMS
The platform trend reappeared this summer but boy it gets so much better next year. Think chunky tred soles and thick platforms. Not only are platform sandals going to still be in, platform trainers are too. Platforms are definitely one of my fave trends from this SS14 so I’m glad they are coming back!FASHION TRAINERS
Trainers have become very popular this year and they are going to get even bigger next. But it’s not branded trainers that will be big, a lot of fashion footwear brands have created their own versions according to fashion trends. I spotted mesh, platform, laser cut, fur and bold coloured trainers all over the trade show. I cannot wait to see them come out next year, cos I definitely have my eye on a few Vagabond styles.I hope my trend report has given you an idea of the big footwear trends to watch out for next year! What will be your fave?Shoe-trendPeace x
