WE ARE FSTVL - Sophie Hannah

Yup, it’s only May but it’s already summer to me having already been to my first festival! I hit up We Are Fstvl in Upminster, Essex last weekend with my flat mate and boy was it a goodun! Did any of you lot go?

It was a weekend full of house music, top DJS, backstage action, deck chairs, polaroid pictures, shuffling, rubber dingys and hot tubs – YEAH you heard it, there were hot tubs there! Unfortunately though we did not have the pleasure of testing it out, we were shuffling too hard!

It was a two day festival starting off on Saturday – a wet start to the weekend and no I was not prepared with wellies! All I had were my Underground Creepers (which are still to this day caked in mud). However I didn’t let that stop me, with my poncho and polaroid in hand (Fujifilm instax mini 8), I embraced the mud and the rain! Luckily most of the festival was actually undercover in tents so when there was a down pour we could all hide away in those; and the tents were where the DJs were so perfect really.

Saturday was an immense day. We managed to get backstage in VIP and we partied with MK, Route 94 and the lovely Anabel Englund (still in love with her pastel locks). It was amazing, I was shuffling all night long.

On day two of the festival the weather we were much luckier with the rain – thank god! I was still prepared with my poncho in my backpack but it stayed in there all day. That day we managed to snap some fab festival style looks for Motel Rocks with the polaroid camera – I just love the vintage, grainy look polaroid pictures have! We managed to get backstage on the main stage this time and boy was it sick! We were drinking Gin & Pussy – yup the mixer was called Pussy, slightly odd but very humorous when your tipsy. We mingled back stage with Duke Dumont, Maxi Mayo, Annie Mac and Fat Boy Slim himself – it’s bad to say, but I didn’t realise he was that old! He’s still going though bless him, and he was an absolute cracker of a guy. We made confetti friends shuffling down the front of the stage in the sun, and it was a brilliant ending to the festival.

I would happily do it all over again!
